Police are still investigating what caused a fatal collision on Route 9 in Suonenjoki on Friday, Yle reports. A middle-aged man from Kuopio died when the car he was driving collided with a motorhome.
Police believe the car, travelling from the direction of Jyväskylä, crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the front of the motorhome. The collision happened at about 4.30pm. Its cause remains unclear.
The motorhome driver and the other people involved avoided serious injuries. Both vehicles had one passenger in addition to the driver, and everyone involved was an adult.
Police are investigating the case as aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and suspect the deceased driver. Investigators are checking whether a fault in the car contributed to the crash and what condition the driver was in. Rain had made driving conditions poor.
Police have interviewed people involved in the collision but are still seeking witnesses, particularly drivers who were travelling behind the car.
