A driver reached nearly 250 kilometres per hour during a police chase of more than 100 kilometres on Saturday, creating a significant danger to other road users, Yle reported.
The chase began in Piippola, in the municipality of Siikalatva, when the driver fled a police stop. Officers from Oulu and Eastern Finland took part in the pursuit, which continued through Pulkkila, Kärsämäki, Pyhäntä and Vieremä to Kiuruvesi in North Savo.
Police tried twice to stop the car with a spike strip, but the driver avoided it both times. The driver eventually stopped on a minor road in Kiuruvesi and was apprehended.
A rapid drug test was positive, and the driver did not have a valid driving licence. He is suspected of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, driving under the influence and driving without a licence. Police seized the car.
