Yoko Ono’s Peace Column lit for 20th time

Yoko Ono’s Peace Column was lit for the 20th time in a peaceful ceremony on Friday, with a musical performance by Árný Margrét and an address by Reykjavík Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir, mbl.is reports.

Ono’s artwork was erected in Viðey in 2007 to promote the peace message she and her husband, John Lennon, advocated. Ono dedicated the work to Lennon, and it shines from his birthday on October 9 until January 1, 2027.

The light beam that illuminates the evening sky originates in a wishing well. The words “Imagine peace” are engraved on it in 24 languages, referring to Lennon’s song “Imagine.”
