Kareem M. M. Abufarhah will appeal his five-year prison sentence for attempted murder, mbl.is reports. He was convicted of driving into a man at high speed in the parking garage at Höfðatorg in March.

Abufarhah’s lawyer, Ólafur Valur Guðjónsson, confirmed the appeal. Mohamed Sayidalis Ahmed, who received an 18-month sentence for his part in the case, is still considering whether to appeal, his lawyer Sveinn Andri Sveinsson said.

Three men were charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack. The third defendant, Qossay Ali Yahya Alsadi, was acquitted.

Abufarhah was ordered to pay more than 13.6 million Icelandic krónur in legal costs to the state, while Ahmed was ordered to pay nearly nine million krónur. They must also jointly pay more than 4.1 million krónur in fees for the victim’s legal representative. Time spent in pre-trial detention will be deducted from their sentences.
