A Tórshavn council member is appealing Mayor Elsa Berg’s decision to halt a council resolution on the location of a planned care centre in Kollafjørður, KVF reports. Bergur Robert Dam Jensen says he will complain to the municipal supervisory authority, questioning whether the mayor had the power to stop the decision.
The council considered the location on 17 September. It approved Jensen’s proposal to move the planned centre from Todnesi to Norðreki, with seven votes in favour and six against. A separate vote to bring the proposal to a vote had passed by nine to four.
After the meeting, it emerged that Jensen’s mother is the leaseholder at Norðreki. Council member Heidi Lava Elgeirsdóttir then complained to the municipal supervisory authority, alleging a conflict of interest. Berg subsequently halted the matter.
Jensen told KVF that he had consulted a lawyer and that his complaint would be submitted later that day. He said he had brought the issue before the council because no progress was being made, and argued that halting a council resolution raised serious questions about whether the mayor was authorised to do so.
