Flooded underpass disrupts traffic in Pirkkala

A large pool of water in a road underpass is disrupting traffic in Pirkkala after heavy rain, Yle reports. The underpass is on Palmrothintie, between Partola and Toivio, beneath the bridges carrying Highway 3.

The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department said the water is significantly affecting traffic and that it has received several reports about the flooded road. Some drivers have tried to get past using the pavements, while others have taken alternative routes.

The rescue department has informed the municipality of Pirkkala, which is responsible for maintaining the road. The stretch often accumulates disruptive amounts of water during heavy rain.

Rain fell for almost all of Friday in Pirkkala and the Tampere region and was expected to continue into the evening. The story was first reported by Pirkkalainen.
