No searches are underway at other locations in the Competition Authority’s investigation into alleged competition-law violations by Ölgerðin, mbl.is reported Friday.

A search is taking place at the offices of Bera, Ölgerðin’s parent company. Staff from the Office of the Special Prosecutor are conducting the search, according to mbl.is sources.

The investigation concerns alleged breaches of Section 11 of the Competition Act, which prohibits companies from abusing a dominant market position. The search was authorised by the Reykjavík District Court. The investigation currently covers the period from the start of 2020 to the present.

The Competition Authority has previously examined Ölgerðin’s market position. Recent reporting by Innherji said the authority saw strong indications that the company held a dominant position in sales of wine and spirits to restaurants and other large buyers.

Competitors have also raised concerns that Ölgerðin’s purchases of Gæðabakstur and Kjarnavörur could further strengthen its position, including through combined sales of food and beverages. It is not known whether those concerns are connected to the current investigation.
