The Faroese parliament has unanimously approved taking over responsibility for drug-related affairs, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports.

The transfer is due to take effect on January 1. It will give Faroese authorities the power to regulate the field through legislation passed by the Faroese parliament. Faroese authorities already handle and fund most of the area.

All 21 members present voted in favour at the bill’s second reading. The parliament’s Social Affairs Committee also backed the government’s proposal unanimously.

The bill must go through one more reading in parliament.
