The Faroese government wants to raise the income limits for receiving a family supplement, KVF reports.
The proposed limit for single people would rise from 290,000 kroner to 310,000 kroner. For couples, the current limits of 390,000 and 410,000 kroner would be replaced by a single limit of 450,000 kroner, regardless of the number of children.
The asset limit would increase from 30,000 kroner to 40,000 kroner.
The government says the limits have barely changed since the scheme began, while wages and benefits have risen considerably over the past 10 years. As a result, fewer people now qualify for the supplement, even though living costs have also increased.
The Faroese parliament is due to consider the proposal today.
