Unions hold smaller meetings as contract deadline nears

Representatives of VR, LÍV and Fagfélögin are meeting with the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) as a deadline to terminate their agreement approaches, mbl.is reports.

A short break was under way at SA’s offices, with about an hour and a half remaining before the deadline. VR chair Halla Gunnarsdóttir told reporters earlier that she had brought signed termination notices for all the unions connected to VR, LÍV and Fagfélögin.

Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir spoke with Halla earlier about a supplement to mortgage interest relief, according to mbl.is sources. Halla brought proposals on the issue to the meeting with SA.

Talks could still go either way, mbl.is reported, citing conversations overheard by its journalist at SA’s offices.
