The People’s Party’s representatives on Tórshavn City Council have called on government minister Jacob Vesturgaard to withdraw a proposal that would exempt the public ferry service Strandferðslan from port charges, KVF reports. The change would cost Tórshavn Port about seven million kroner.
Councillors Birgir Nielsen and Høgni Vilhelmsen said the minister was making it too easy to take money from the port to cover costs he could not meet from his own budget.
They said the proposal conflicts with the Government Act and the Constitution, undermines municipal autonomy and threatens the financial basis of Tórshavn Port.
