Driver gets 38 months for fatal Jalasjärvi crash

Ossi Konttinen has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison for causing a fatal crash in Jalasjärvi in June 2025, Yle reported.
The South Ostrobothnia District Court convicted him of aggravated causing of death, a drug offence, driving while intoxicated, driving without a licence and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.
Konttinen caused a head-on collision on Highway 3. The driver of an oncoming van died from injuries sustained in the crash. Konttinen’s car also struck a car travelling behind the van, injuring two passengers in the cars.
Witnesses told the court that Konttinen had caused several near misses with dangerous overtaking before the fatal collision.
Konttinen has said he is dissatisfied with the verdict, which is not yet final. The court also ordered him to pay compensation, including just over 11,300 euros plus interest to an insurance company.
