The trial over damage to cables in the Gulf of Finland on last New Year’s Eve concludes today with closing arguments at Helsinki District Court, Yle reports.
Prosecutors are seeking unconditional prison sentences of at least two and a half years for the captain and bosun of the cargo ship Fitburg. They face charges of aggravated criminal damage and aggravated interference with telecommunications.
Prosecutors say the men endangered important functions of Finnish society by damaging fibre-optic cables in the Gulf of Finland.
