Drunk driver arrested after causing crash

A driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after causing a traffic crash, mbl.is reported, citing a police log covering incidents from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The driver was held in a cell until sober enough to be questioned.
The crash happened in Police Station 1’s district, which covers East Reykjavík, central Reykjavík, West Reykjavík and Seltjarnarnes. Police gave no further details, including where the crash occurred or whether anyone was injured.
In the same district, three drivers were stopped for running red lights. Police also responded to an assault report and arrested a suspect who was still at the scene. The case is under investigation.
In Police Station 2’s district, which includes Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær and Álftanes, officers stopped a driver suspected of driving under the influence of drugs. Another driver was caught travelling at 116 km/h in an 80 km/h zone and could face a substantial fine.
Police also stopped another driver for suspected drunk driving in Grafarvogur, Mosfellsbær or Árbær. No further information was provided.
