Faroese MP Jenis av Rana has nominated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, KVF reports.

Av Rana, who represents Miðflokkurin in the Faroese parliament, said in a press release that he nominated Netanyahu because of Israel’s fight against terrorism following the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

He said Netanyahu was not only fighting for Israel. “Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting the fight of all of us against terrorists who do not respect human life and whose goal is to bring the whole world under an ideology of power,” av Rana wrote.

Av Rana also compared Netanyahu to Queen Esther from the Old Testament, describing him as “a prime minister appointed by God for his time.”

He said he did not expect Netanyahu to receive the prize, writing that “prejudice against him and his nation is unfortunately too great.”

Av Rana said he sent the nomination to the Norwegian Nobel Committee in January and received confirmation on January 25 that it had been received. The Peace Prize winner is due to be announced on Friday, October 9.
