U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked Icelandic police for their assistance during his visit, assistant chief superintendent Árni Friðleifsson told mbl.is.
Rubio and Árni spoke at Keflavík Airport before Rubio left Iceland. Árni described the exchange as polite conversation, adding that Rubio spoke about the country’s beauty and the good weather.
Police officers had accompanied Rubio during his trip around Reykjavík, with the escort ending at the airport. Árni said the preparations and traffic escorts had gone well.
Between 10 and 14 police motorcycles were involved, he said, describing the arrangements as similar to those made for visiting heads of state and politicians. The National Commissioner of Police’s office organised security for the visit.
