Tórshavn Mayor Elsa Berg has called on the government to withdraw a proposal to scrap port charges for ships and boats operated by Strandferðslan, the ferry service. The change would reduce Tórshavn Port’s revenue by 7%, Berg said, according to KVF.
The proposal in the draft 2027 budget would also remove quay and cargo charges for the vessels. The government says municipalities should cover the costs instead.
Berg described the proposal as ill-considered and short-sighted.
