Man gets 10 years for killing his spouse in Seinäjoki
A man in his 40s has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing his spouse in Seinäjoki, Yle reports. The South Ostrobothnia District Court said the killing took place in the Marttila district in January 2025.
According to the court’s account, the man cut his spouse’s throat with a knife. She died from her injuries. The defendant admitted acting as described in the charge and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
A mental health assessment found that he was legally sane at the time of the killing. The court said his long-term depression and poor psychological functioning had probably contributed to the crime.
The man was also ordered to pay compensation, including for the victim’s children. He has expressed dissatisfaction with the entire judgment. The ruling is not yet final. Yle has not named him to protect the privacy of the victim and her relatives.
