Will humans lose control of artificial intelligence?

KVF, the Faroese public broadcaster, is asking whether people can keep control of artificial intelligence as the technology develops rapidly and begins to make decisions with potentially serious consequences.

The question is at the centre of the broadcaster’s programme Breddin. People involved in developing artificial intelligence have warned about its possible consequences, while questions grow over who would be responsible for decisions made by the technology.

The programme will also examine whether competition between major powers and technology companies could push safety concerns aside in the race to be first.

In 1950, British mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing asked whether machines could think. The debate has since shifted to what artificial intelligence can do, and whether its creators will be able to steer it. Breddin airs at 10 a.m.
