Faroese Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen says he has no objection to Danish military personnel voluntarily wearing shoulder patches with the Faroese flag, KVF reports. He said this in a written response to MP Bjarni Kárason Petersen.
There was no written communication between Faroese and Danish authorities about the flag on Danish military uniforms. In the second half of 2025, however, the Faroese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade received informal information from Denmark’s Ministry of Defence and Danish Defence that personnel had begun wearing patches featuring the Danish, Faroese and Greenlandic flags.
Johannesen also said that it is the police commissioner, not the prime minister, who is responsible for ensuring that the flag law is followed.
