A mother in Hósvík says her family has received strong support as they care for her five-year-old son, Bjørn, who has cerebral palsy, KVF reports.

Bjørn lives in Hósvík and attends the village’s daycare centre with support. His mother, Sarita Fríðheim, said the condition resulted from a birth injury that damaged his brain, affecting his ability to control his body.

Hilma Ingibjørnsdóttir Eldevig, Bjørn’s support worker, said he loves being around other children and enjoys lively surroundings. Fríðheim said the support from the municipality had been good throughout, and that being with children his own age, with help, worked well for him.

The daycare centre at Stórheygg plans to mark International Cerebral Palsy Day on October 6. Children are invited to wear green, and the centre will serve green cake and talk about cerebral palsy in terms suited to their age.

Fríðheim said it was important to welcome people with cerebral palsy, even though many people may not know much about the condition.
