Westerly winds are forecast to reach dangerously strong levels across Finland on Tuesday, with the strongest gusts expected around midday or in the afternoon, Yle reports.
In western Finland, gusts are forecast to exceed 20 metres per second in some places. Wind damage and power cuts are also likely in southern and central Finland, as well as in the regions of North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.
“Gusts of 15 to 20 metres per second are likely to bring down trees and cause power cuts, as well as other damage-related callouts,” Yle meteorologist Laura Tuomola said.
Warnings for strong or dangerously strong winds have been issued for almost the whole country. Wind and wave warnings are in force for sea areas.
The strongest gusts are expected to ease on Tuesday evening, but windy conditions are forecast to continue on Wednesday, Tuomola said.
