Police will not open criminal investigation into Kaskinen mayor
Police will not open a criminal investigation into Kaskinen Mayor Markku Lumio after finding no grounds to suspect an offence, Yle reports.
The Ostrobothnia Police Department conducted a preliminary assessment of a harassment complaint concerning Lumio. It found no grounds to suspect a crime and has closed the matter.
Yle reported in late August that three women had raised concerns about what they described as Lumio’s inappropriate and overly familiar behaviour, including comments about their appearance, hugs and messages. A woman who serves as an elected representative in Kaskinen filed a report with police.
In a statement about the police decision, the city said its board had decided the previous week not to consider a resident’s request to overturn an early September decision, because that decision had no legal effect. “The legal processes concerning Lumio have therefore ended,” board chair Jan-Anders Lundenius said.
