Businesses need to be ready and know how to respond when a cyberattack strikes, cybersecurity expert Bárður Christiansen told KVF, Kringvarp Føroya. He said people would have to get used to such attacks.

Bakkafrost, one of the Faroe Islands’ largest companies, has an advanced system to defend against cyberattacks. But it is unclear how well prepared Faroese companies are in general for a serious IT attack, Christiansen said.

As news emerged of an attack on Bakkafrost, hackers had also gained access to and stolen the CPR numbers of 8.8 million registered people in Denmark. Denmark’s Technical University was hit by a hacker attack a few days earlier.
