The majority on Suðurnesjabær’s town council has collapsed, mbl.is reports. Bergný Jóna Sævarsdóttir, a Social Democratic Alliance council member and the council’s first deputy chair, confirmed the news.

Sævarsdóttir said she could not yet provide further details, including what led to the collapse.

After municipal elections in May, Haukur Andreasson, leader of the D-list in Suðurnesjabær, and Svavar Grétarsson, leader of the Social Democratic Alliance, signed an agreement to form a governing majority for the council term.
