Iceland’s Meteorological Office has extended a yellow warning for landslide risk in the northern Westfjords until 8 a.m. Monday because the ground remains very wet, mbl.is reported.
Rainfall on Sunday was limited, but the soil is still saturated after prolonged wet conditions, said Martina Stefani, a specialist in avalanche and landslide risk assessment at the Meteorological Office.
A small mudslide fell in Ísafjörður at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, behind a protective barrier at Gleiðarhjalli. Stefani said it was the latest slide the office had recorded or heard about in the area.
Cooler weather is forecast, including in the mountains. Stefani said this was a positive development given the water currently moving through the soil.
The road through Eyrarhlíð was closed after a mudslide crossed it on Friday.
