Reykjanes seismic activity subsides within hours

Seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula subsided within hours overnight, with the last tremor recorded at about 3:30 a.m., mbl.is reported.
A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was followed by about 15 smaller aftershocks. The quake was felt in the capital region.
The Icelandic Met Office’s natural hazard monitoring service described the activity as typical seismic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula’s rift zone. It said there was no indication that the earthquakes were a precursor to further events.
