Heinemann, the operator of Iceland Duty Free at Keflavik Airport, will temporarily take over the retail space used by eyewear shop Eyesland when it closes at the end of October, mbl.is reports.
Heinemann plans to open a shop selling sunglasses and similar accessories in the space in early November, according to a response from airport operator Isavia to mbl.is.
Eyesland’s operator, Provision, has said the airport shop is closing because customer shopping habits have changed, with travellers generally spending less time shopping and using services at the airport. Isavia says it has also seen changes in passenger shopping habits and will adapt its services and design in response.
Provision and GG Optic, which operated the Augað and ProOptik eyewear shops, combined their operations under the Provision name in 2024. After the Keflavik closure, four Eyesland shops will remain, in Glæsibær, Grandi, Kringlan and Spöng.
