Aalborg, care homes, elder care

Aalborg Municipality has approved an extensive action plan to address long-running problems at Fremtidens Plejehjem, a care home in Nørresundby near Aalborg, DR reports.

The home has faced criticism over inadequate hygiene and unsafe handling of residents’ medication, and has received several orders to make improvements. The problems have persisted since it opened in 2014.

The plan introduces regular meetings to ensure staff hand over information about residents. Employees will also receive thorough training in a digital system for documenting care and medication details.

To address management problems, the home will hire an additional assistant manager and introduce a new management model.

Vibeke Gamst, an alderman for Senior and Rehabilitation, said the home was in an unusual situation because its problems had lasted so long and proved difficult to resolve. Aalborg Municipality’s Senior and Rehabilitation Committee will closely monitor whether the plan delivers improvements.

Gamst said the plan gave her hope that the management would be able to handle the task and that staff would see a special effort being made.
