Defence says prosecution has not proved homicide in Kársnes case
Georgios Ntentes’s defence lawyer says the prosecution has not proved that a homicide took place, and has asked for his client to be acquitted. The arguments were made in the Kársnes case at Reykjanes District Court, mbl.is reported.
Ómar Örn Bjarnþórsson asked the court to dismiss the case. Alternatively, he asked for the lightest possible sentence.
Bjarnþórsson pointed to differences between reports by Icelandic and foreign forensic pathologists on whether the death was a homicide or suicide. He said one foreign expert considered suicide more likely, while the Icelandic report leaned towards homicide.
He also argued that the time of death had not been established with certainty. The prosecution alleges Ntentes killed the victim on the evening of Friday, November 28. The body was found the following Sunday. Bjarnþórsson said forensic experts could not rule out that the death occurred on Saturday.
Addressing inconsistencies in Ntentes’s testimony, the lawyer referred to his client’s heavy cannabis use and its possible effects on his short-term memory, as well as the time that had passed since the case began.
