Ango’s new fishing vessel, renamed Ísborg, will cost the shipping company 75 million kroner after repairs, KVF reported. The company paid 65 million kroner for the ship and expects to spend another 10 million on repairs before it begins fishing.
The vessel, formerly named Margréth, was bought from Iceland. It is 18 years old and was built in Norway.
Ango, based in Vágur, bought the ship after selling its previous vessel, also named Ango, to Morocco earlier this summer for 44 million kroner. The new vessel will take over Ango’s fishing quotas and half of the quotas held by Katrina Jóhanna.
Ango and half of Kinnfelli, the company that owned Katrina Jóhanna, merged this summer. Gráastein, which had planned to join the merger with its vessel Birita, later withdrew.
Last year, Ango and Varðin bought Eysturbúgvin and acquired its herring and mackerel quotas. Those quotas have been fished this year, while just over 7,000 tonnes of blue whiting remain to be caught.
