A man suffered head and facial injuries after falling from an electric scooter travelling at considerable speed in central Reykjavik last night, mbl.is reported. A police officer said the rider was very intoxicated.
The fall happened near a construction area. Unnar Már Ástþórsson, a senior officer with the Capital Region Police, said police were examining whether the way the area had been left contributed to the accident. He said intoxication was also a major factor.
The scooter was travelling at 25 kilometres per hour, Unnar said, adding that this was a high speed for someone to fall at without appropriate equipment.
Unnar said police had seen many cases of people riding electric scooters under the influence of alcohol. He said accidents involving the scooters had increased, with most happening in the evening or at night, and urged people not to ride them after drinking.
