More than four people have entered the draw for every available place in the 2027 Copenhagen Half Marathon, DR reports. A total of 188,522 people registered for the lottery, which will allocate 45,000 race entries.

The race is scheduled for September 19, 2027. Sparta Atletik & Løb, the event organiser, said in a press release on Thursday that the turnout showed how Copenhagen and its engaged spectators attract running enthusiasts from around the world.

Registration for the lottery closed overnight on Wednesday. The organiser has begun the draw, with the first successful applicants due to be notified by email on October 5. Those selected will have 48 hours to buy a place.

The 2027 race will have the largest field in its history. This year’s edition had 35,000 participants. Organising director Dorte Vibjerg said the event could not expand further without risking the quality and safety of the experience, including on the route and in the post-race Runners Area.

Entries were previously allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The lottery was introduced to give everyone an equal chance. Applicants could enter alone or in groups of up to three; groups are drawn together or not selected at all.
