About 43% of respondents named Sjónvarp Símans Premium Iceland’s best domestic streaming service, according to a Maskína survey reported by mbl.is. RÚV was chosen by 35.9% and Sýn+ by 17.8%.

Sjónvarp Símans Premium ranked first among both men and women and in most age groups. Around 40% of respondents aged 18 to 39 chose the service, as did about half of those aged 40 to 49.

“We are very pleased with these results, as we are committed to offering varied, high-quality television, with Icelandic series playing a central role,” Birkir Ágústsson, Síminn’s managing director of media, said in a company statement. “The results encourage us to keep strengthening our programming and bring viewers the content they want to see.”

Over the past four years, 26 Icelandic series have been shown on Sjónvarp Símans Premium, including five for children. They account for about 70% to 80% of all scripted Icelandic series that premiered on Icelandic television during that period, according to the article.

Síminn also said advertising sales for Sjónvarp Símans and Billboard rose 17% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Kári Jónsson, Síminn’s head of advertising media, attributed the growth in television advertising to a greater focus on high-quality programming and the development of new advertising solutions.

The Maskína survey was conducted on August 27 and 28, 2026, among 1,210 people aged 18 and older across Iceland. The results were weighted by gender, age, residence and education.
