Equipment failure raises chlorine levels during school swimming

An equipment failure caused chlorine levels at Ásgarðslaug, a swimming pool in Garðabær, to exceed the permitted level last week, mbl.is reports. Children were taking part in school swimming at the time, but none was harmed.

Garðabær said in a written response to mbl.is that the pool was closed while repairs were carried out and reopened the following day. Some students reported eye discomfort after their swimming lesson.

The municipality said no similar problem had occurred at Urriðaholtslaug, another swimming pool. mbl.is was unable to reach the manager of sports facilities in Ásgarður and Álftanes for comment.
