Prisma aims to offer an alternative to Temu and Amazon

Prisma’s online store will open to outside sellers in October, as S Group seeks to build a marketplace that could offer an alternative to Temu and Amazon, Yle reports.

The marketplace will sell products from third-party businesses alongside Prisma’s own range. SOK’s head of consumer goods, Sebastian Nyström, said the goal is to create a significant digital marketplace with millions of products.

Nyström said Finland has lacked a local marketplace where domestic sellers can reach customers and provide nearby customer service. However, the service has so far signed agreements with only a few dozen large European sellers, not Finnish businesses.

One seller named by Nyström is Sweden’s Venture Design, which makes home furnishings and furniture. He said few Finnish sellers have extensive marketplace experience, so the number of participating businesses will be limited at first.

Because sellers, rather than the marketplace operator, are responsible for the products they sell, Prisma is initially choosing European companies whose goods are stored in Europe and that have experience on other marketplaces. Customers will make returns through Prisma.fi, which will also be their main point of contact.

Nyström said developing the marketplace is a significant investment for S Group, but did not disclose the amount.
