Local man dies in traffic accident in Rantasalmi

Last Saturday, a local man in Rantasalmi tragically died in a traffic accident, according to police reports. Around 6 PM, law enforcement received a report of a potentially intoxicated driver in the area. Upon locating the suspect, the individual failed to comply with a stop order and attempted to flee.

The ensuing chase lasted approximately one kilometer. Near Kolkonpä, the suspect’s car collided with the left front corner of an oncoming truck. Senior Crime Commissioner Jouni Väisänen confirmed that the driver of the car was a local man in his sixties, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

The truck driver, fortunately, was uninjured in the incident.
