Tønder Danish People’s Party board resigns and quits

The entire board of the Danish People’s Party’s local association in Tønder has resigned and left the party, DR reports.

The association said in a Facebook post that all its planned events had been cancelled and the page would soon be shut down. DR said it had not been able to get a comment from the former board.

Kenneth Kristensen Berth, the party’s secretary and head of organisation, confirmed that the Tønder association no longer had a board. “I actually think that is excellent. If you do not want to be in the Danish People’s Party, you are free to leave,” he said.

The resignations follow the expulsion of the former local chair and another party member. Over the weekend, two members of Tønder’s municipal council, Allan Svendsen and Pernille Brylle, also left the party and became independents.

The party still has one member on the municipal council: Mads-Magnus Damm, who is also national chair of the Danish People’s Party Youth. At the most recent municipal election, the party received 9.4 per cent of the vote in Tønder Municipality, an increase of 6.6 percentage points.
