Fljótsdalur power station fault could take up to eight weeks to repair

A fault in a high-voltage conductor at unit transformer 3 at Fljótsdalur power station could take six to eight weeks to repair, according to Landsvirkjun, the power company, in a statement reported by mbl.is.

The company said the repair schedule remains uncertain. The station’s five other units will each be taken out of service for two to three days in October for inspections intended to prevent a similar fault and ensure they continue operating smoothly. The first unit is scheduled to be stopped on October 6.

The fault adds to extensive maintenance across Landsvirkjun’s generating system and further limits its production capacity. The company said it would seek to minimise the impact, but reduced electricity deliveries from the station to the transmission system could lead to some restrictions. Any restrictions would be in line with the terms of customer contracts.
