Court remands man for four weeks over serious assault

A man in his 40s has been remanded in custody for four weeks, until October 27, on suspicion of seriously assaulting a woman in her 30s, mbl.is reports.

Police say the man was arrested last night in an apartment in a block of flats in Kópavogur. The woman was taken from the scene to an emergency department with serious injuries.

Elín Agnes Eide Kristjánsdóttir, a chief superintendent in the capital area police investigation department, said police believe the assault took place in the apartment. The nature of the man’s relationship with the woman is unclear.

Police are waiting for a medical report on the woman’s injuries. Kristjánsdóttir said she could not provide further details about the case, including whether a weapon was used.
