Online orders aim to cut sheep offal waste

KVF reports that a new website will make it easier for people in the Faroe Islands to order sheep offal directly from farmers, in an effort to reduce the amount discarded after slaughtering.

Much of the sheep at Skemmugarður farm on Sandoy is used, but demand for offal is lower than it once was. “Demand could be higher,” said Pauli Sandoy, the farmer there.

Some offal from slaughtering around the country is burned as waste by IRF. Sandoy said too much usable material was going to waste.

The website, avroð.fo, is intended to simplify orders and help farmers know in advance how much offal to set aside. Sandoy welcomed the initiative but is still waiting for more orders.
