Defendant describes victim’s drug use in murder trial

Georgios Ntentes told the District Court of Reykjanes that Edilson Zingara had been on a three-day drug binge when he visited him shortly before Zingara was found dead, mbl.is reports.

Judges questioned Ntentes after the prosecutor and his defence lawyer had finished examining him. Judge Jónas Jóhannsson asked why Zingara’s apartment had been in disarray when he was found dead at home on November 28, 2025.

Ntentes said he did not know why the apartment was messy and that Zingara usually kept it in reasonable order. He said Zingara had been on a three-day drug binge after his girlfriend ended their relationship. Ntentes said he met Zingara on the evening of November 28 and stayed for just over an hour, but maintained that everything was fine when he left.

Ntentes also said he and Zingara had used hard drugs and played video games until morning on the night leading into November 28. “I’m not proud of it, but that’s the situation,” he said.

Asked whether he was right- or left-handed, Ntentes said he could use both hands. When a judge asked how he used cocaine, he replied that he snorted it.

Ntentes said he had not thought Zingara was considering suicide. He did not know whether Zingara had enemies, but said he knew Zingara sold drugs and had links to organised crime. He also said Zingara had planned to travel to Portugal to collect drugs intended for Iceland.

Evidence presented in court showed that the men exchanged no messages between Friday, November 28, and December 1. Police found a message in Ntentes’ phone that read: “Are you okay, brother?”
