Five men have been indicted for allegedly detaining a man for up to two hours, subjecting him to severe violence, raping him and threatening to kill him, mbl.is reports. The attack was filmed and shared on Snapchat.

The indictment says two of the defendants picked up the victim from his home outside the capital region and drove him towards the capital area. After stopping at several places, they were joined at Krónan in Jafnarsel by two masked men, who got into the car and sat on either side of the victim.

The men allegedly tied the victim’s hands with cable ties, grabbed him by the throat and held him down. They also struck him in the ribs with an iron object and threatened him, including with death. The driver then headed to Elliðahvammsvegur in Kópavogur and continued along a track before stopping at a gravel lot near Hólmaþing. There, all five allegedly pulled the victim from the car and attacked him.

According to the indictment, the men repeatedly hit him on the head and body, held him down, pulled down his trousers and inserted an iron pipe into his anus without his consent. They also put the pipe in his mouth and left him partly clothed and without shoes. The man sustained serious injuries across his body.

One defendant is separately charged with violating the victim’s sexual privacy by recording the attack. The video showed the pipe being inserted into the victim’s anus. The defendant allegedly shared it on Snapchat with another co-defendant and in a group chat called “Football on Boys”, whose members included the other defendants and several unidentified men.

The prosecutor is also seeking the confiscation of numerous phones and the tools and weapons allegedly used in the attack. The victim is seeking about 12 million in compensation for unlawful confinement, serious assault, a sexual offence and robbery.

The case was brought before Reykjanes District Court last week.
