Banedanmark repairs fallen wire, restoring train services

Train services between Denmark’s regions are expected to return to normal at 10 a.m. Tuesday after Banedanmark repaired a fallen overhead wire near Sorø, DR reported.

The wire had disrupted services since Monday afternoon, causing cancellations and delays on the line between Sorø and Slagelse. Banedanmark said it had completed extensive overnight repairs to the power supply system and was still investigating what caused the incident.

InterCityLyn and InterCity trains between Copenhagen and Esbjerg continued to run, but with longer journey times because fewer trains could use the reduced capacity. Replacement buses ran between Ringsted, Sorø and Slagelse, according to DSB.

Although normal operations were expected to resume, Banedanmark urged passengers to check their journeys before travelling.

A damaged power supply system near Sorø caused similar cancellations and delays in mid-September. Banedanmark is investigating why overhead wires have fallen on the line more than once in a short period, the company’s maintenance director, Nicolai Smidt Sigsgaard, said on Monday.
