The Faroe Islands could take control of the police, prosecution service and corrections on January 1, 2028, under a proposal Tjóðveldi will present to the Faroese parliament today, KVF reports.

Tjóðveldi estimates the transfer would cost 155 million kroner to operate in 2028. The parliament is due to meet at 1 p.m.

The party also wants to restart work on bringing the judicial system and courts under Faroese responsibility. Efforts to place judicial authority under Faroese control have been made more than once, and a Faroese judicial system committee was established during constitutional work early this century. Tjóðveldi says little has happened in recent years.
