Prosecutor seeks five years in prison for former KuPS player

Prosecutors are seeking about five years in prison for an 18-year-old former Kuopion Palloseura footballer accused of sexual offences, Yle reported. He is charged with aggravated rape, two counts of rape and attempted rape.

The trial ended at North Savo District Court. The alleged offences took place in Kuopio between March and May, and each of the four charges involves a different complainant.

The defendant denies all charges. Prosecutor Patrik Voss-Lagerlund said the trial had brought no surprises. Defence lawyer Roope Tsupari said the evidence of guilt was very weak and called the prosecution’s proposed sentence excessive.

The court is expected to issue its verdict as soon as possible. Yle is not publishing the defendant’s name while the case is at the charging stage.
