Karlstad service to reach more children and young people

The Karlstad service will continue and become available to more children and young people, the minister for education said, KVF reports. The Special Education Department will provide the service.

Until now, it has been limited to children and young people with Down syndrome. In future, it will also be available to those with significant, long-term or complex language and communication challenges.

Eligibility will depend on a child’s needs rather than a specific diagnosis, provided suitable service providers are available. The department will soon contact current and potential new providers and make the necessary agreements.

The Karlstad service is a tool used to support language, speech and other forms of communication in children and adults.
