Former childcare worker sentenced to preventive detention for abusing five boys

A 53-year-old former childcare worker has been sentenced to preventive detention for sexually abusing five boys, DR reports.
The Eastern High Court found him guilty of offences against boys aged between eight and 18. The abuse took place from 2007 to 2013 and from 2020 to 2023. Prosecutors said he met four of the boys through his work as a childcare worker.
He was also convicted of recording audio, video and photographs of several of the assaults, and of branding one of the victims.
The ruling upholds a 2024 judgment by the District Court in Hillerød. The man admitted some of the charges but appealed to the high court seeking acquittal on the charges he denied. The court also barred him from working with children and young people until further notice.
Preventive detention means he will remain imprisoned indefinitely and can be released only if a judge finds it safe. A psychiatric assessment, according to Ritzau, found that he had antisocial and narcissistic personality traits and was unscrupulous and evasive of responsibility.
