A 60-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for assaulting a 67-year-old motorist after a road-rage confrontation, DR reported.

A jury court at Aalborg District Court found him guilty of assault on Monday. The incident happened on 29 July 2024 at the motorway exit by Øster Uttrup Vej in Aalborg, after the two men had driven for several kilometres in what the court described as mutual aggressive driving.

The 60-year-old admitted punching the other man twice in the stomach. He told the court that the 67-year-old had swung at his wife, who had started filming the incident on her phone.

The 67-year-old died the following day from internal bleeding caused by injuries to his spleen and liver. A forensic examination concluded the injuries resulted from the assault.

The 60-year-old had been charged with aggravated assault resulting in death. But the three judges and six jurors found that the punches and kicks to the body were not of a life-threatening nature, and convicted him of assault under section 244 of the Criminal Code.

Prosecutor Pia Koudahl had sought an 18-month prison sentence. She said the prosecution would review the judgment and court records before considering whether to ask the State Prosecutor to pursue an appeal. The man has requested time to decide whether he will appeal.
