A data breach at the Runo Hotel in Porvoo may have affected hundreds of customers, the hotel’s managing director told Yle.

The breach was discovered last Friday and may involve people who booked a stay at the hotel on Thursday last week or earlier. It affected an international external system used by the hotel, or systems connected to it, managing director Erkka Hirvonen said.

The hotel learned of the breach after customers contacted it. So far, names and phone numbers are known to have fallen into the wrong hands, Hirvonen said. Attempts to obtain further information from customers have mainly come through WhatsApp, with one phishing attempt reported by email.

The incident is under investigation. Customers can still make bookings as usual, and the hotel has checked security measures for its check-in system, Hirvonen said.
